Happy 7 Month Birthday!

Mmm, sure hope that was a non-toxic marker.  :)

Dear Travis,

Well your very "computer iliterate Grana" has finally figured out how to write to you via e-mail. That, of course, does not mean that one day has gone by that I have not thought about you and what I have missed in all these months. I see your beautiful face on my computer everytime I turn it on (finally figured out how to do that).

What a blessing you are to me and and just what I thought you would be, handsome, smart, sweet and happy.  (oh, and a republican).

When I look at your face I see wisdom, that assures me you will be intelligent and well-read and a seeker of knowledge.

I see your smile and I know you will have a sense of humor and will laugh a lot and look for things that make you smile.

I see kindness, compassion and an appreciation for all living things that you will encounter in your earthly walk.

I see love for your parents and a knowing that you know you are blessed with this sustaining love and caring.

And Dear Travis, when I think of you and see your beautiful, wise, kind and loving face I think of the generations and wonderful lineage that came before you, and I imagine that they are looking down on the same face.

Have a very Happy 7 Month Birthday.   Hope its a good one.

Oh! Something else, your Grana loves you to the moon and back a trillion gillion times.

Spring Break, Part 2

One of the main reasons we went to Lubbock for Spring Break was for Cousin Kyler's 9th birthday!  Saturday was a busy day - we had Kyler's bday party and his basketball game.  Oh, and it snowed.  Yep, we woke on March 20th with a few inches of snow.  It got weirder when we learned that the Metroplex got snow too!

Kyler's Bday party - Travis wasn't quite ready for roller skates, but he sure enjoyed the disco ball AND all the attention!  Grandpa, Pop, Sassy, Lexi and Roxi were all on hand for pics!  He probably was loved on by at least that many more people, too!

We took a snack and nap break at Grandpa's house which was much closer than Lovey & Pop's, and then we were on to the basketball game.  These were 8-10 year olds on a YMCA league.  It was entertaining for sure!

This is Travis asking his Dad ... "Um, daddy, did I just see Kyler get a Technical foul?".  Awesome!!

Aunt Sonnet sings all the bestest and silliest songs!

But, Kyler is by far the most entertaining!

Spring Break, Part 1

We traveled to Lubbock for Spring Break last week.  We had fun, sun, and SNOW!  Weird weather for sure, but it was just a minor bump in Travis's longest vacation yet.  Me, Travis, and my dad (Grandpa) drove to Lubbock on Wednesday.  The iPhone came in handy the last 30 minutes, but other than that, Travis traveled like a champ.  Lovey, Auntie Gayle, Grana, Aunt Freda, and Uncle Gil were all patiently awaiting our arrival.  Travis has grown a ton since Christmas, and everybody wanted to get their fair share of squeezes!

Pop came home and immediately proceeded to scare the living daylights out of Travis.  Travis was not amused by Pop's jumping out from the couch and yelling "Boo!".  Travis and Pop finally made up the next day, but the rest of that night, Travis was definitely giving Pop the side eye.  Too funny.

Rockin' some serious bed head on Thursday morning!

I got lots of pics of Travis looking at the camera, but none with the adults looking.  Funny!

By far, Travis's favorite thing at Lovey & Pop's was all of the animals. Their kitty cat's are way more friendly than Angel, and all of the puppies were so good with him! Even when his petting wasn't very soft.

No trip to Lovey and Pop's is complete without a new toy! Check out Travis's new bongo set!

This is Daddy saying "play soft" for the millionth time!  Precious (aka Miss P) just kept coming back for more!

Our "after Travis's bedtime" activities included New Moon and Scrabble!  I was 2-0 thankyouverymuch!

10 Things Mothers Should Teach Their Sons

I've reposted this list from lilsugar, but have made some of my own additions!

There's a special bond between mothers and sons. Women raising boys have the power to shape the next generation of men and those to come by teaching their kids important lessons.

1.To express his emotions because bottling them up eventually makes a person explode.  [I agree - women dig sensitive men.  Every phone conversation and day should end with "I Love You!"]

2.To say "ladies first," hold doors open for women, and give his date the jacket off his back when he or she is cold because the world is moving forward in wonderful ways but that doesn't mean chivalry has to die.  [Love this!]

3.To put the toilet seat down after he pees, change his sheets frequently, learn to cook, and do laundry.  [I often pray for Travis's future wife and hope that her mommy is praying for Travis.  I want Travis to be the best husband to her one day and learning some basic housework type stuff is great (Brandon is the best clean dish putter upper ever).  However, more importantly to me, is that Travis learns the "man" chores.  He needs to know how to fix a leaky toilet, mow the yard, take out trash, change the tire, etc., and I'm sure his dad and grandfathers will help with those.  I will make sure that he isn't clueless around the kitchen, and will teach him the "I cook, you clean" rule early on.]

4.To channel his energy through sports, art, dance, the written word — whatever his passion may be.  [I'm all for helping him find his niche, but I'm not going to raise a quitter.  If he has given an activity a fair shake, and it isn't for him, then I'm all about trying something else.  Gonna have to sell his daddy and the grandfathers on dance, though!]

5.That even the biggest fight should be settled with the mind rather than fists.  [Um, sure, but I want Travis to know how to throw a punch just in case.]

6.That not following the group doesn't make him a loser, but his own leader.  [Unless the group is doing the right thing.  Don't be different just for the sake of being different.  Sometimes you lead by following.]

7.To stick up for the underdog even if it makes him an outcast.  [Yep, everyone deserves respect and a friend.  I'll try to teach him to love one another, and that Jesus loves everyone.  In our discussion of the underdog, it may be a good teaching moment to discuss "point spreads" and "over/under".  We'll see how that shakes out!]

8.That he has the power to make an amazing difference in life.  [I want him to understand this on a micro and macro level.  "To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world."]

9.To worry less about whether she's proud of him and more about having pride in himself.  [If Travis has pride in himself, I will no doubt be proud of him.  Just give it everything you've got, and I'll be your #1 fan!  You should see how I swell with pride when the little guy puts himself to sleep at naptime.  You would have thought he won the gold medal!]

10.Smiles are free so be generous with them.  [Kisses are free too, but be stingy with them.]

Grandfather Trifecta

Today, I got to visit Papaw (and Nana) at work.  I was sporting my St. Patty's shirt that they got me.  Thank goodness they got me 12 month as it was super snug on my muscles!  It was frito pie day - yummy!  I really wanted some of dad's, but he wouldn't share.  Mommy ate at home, but did indulge in a glass of sweet tea!

This is Linda.  She gave me my jumperoo I love so much.  Therefore, she is one of my most favorite people EVER!

Here I am at Nana's desk - this is where most of the work gets done anyways!

I may have had a little blowout on my outing!  Yippee for a diaper and outfit change on Papaw's leather sofa.

Last week, I got to enjoy my weekly visit with Grandpa, and I get to spend a whole weekend in Lubbock with Pop.

Ain't life grand?  I've got the three best grandfathers around!

Grandfathers are a special breed
Of kinfolk, all their own.
They love you and hug you,
And spoil you to death.
And then, they send you home.
